Negative progress tonight. The before and almost after bracket that will attach the steering column to the firewall. The bracket in the bottom will recieve a hole for the steering column and will be welded. It turns out putting a gm column in a 66 cruiser ... sucks.

Couple more with the wire tray installed.

Installed, obviously needs to be cleaned up.

There is one. Since the snorkle hit the master I had to cut both of them off and reweld them both on. as this isnt really a hot rod Ill just clean it up and paint it black. The metal on these is REALLY thin so it was fun welding the sheetmetal. I won't clean up the welds because it will probably burn through. Need that TIG any day now.

I cut the snorkle off one a long time ago planning for this little project. Now you see two air filters housings ... and now

I gotta couple air cleaner housing at the junkyard and I have always wanted to make a dual snorkle one hot rod style ... notice it hits the master, it can never be easy.

kind of hard to see but I decided on new guages. The three little guys will be mini 1 1/2 inch and I will have to get a 2 1/16 inch tach. This solves a couple of problems but just cost some more money. To bad I wasted all the time building the other guage panel.

Ah little things. when you don't have a wire gutter or wire tray you need one. Used existing holes in firewall. Still need to fill in the missing wedges so its all one piece. The idea is the main engine compartment bundle will come out of the grommet, secured to wire tray and down passenger side. The headlight portion of the harnes will run along the drivers side. Ive got something special in mind for the air cleaner ;).

Not much to see but here is where the fuse block will go. I might flip it over so the wires route easier but then the labels would be upside down :(

you can see I started to fill more holes. I was going to put the brights indicator in the hole on the lower left but probably not anymore. I clearanced clarenced the dash so the guage panel fits better.

before, filler piece ... almost after. Ive decided of course that now Im going to fill all the holes in the dash, bondo and paint, that means Ill probably want to do the windsheild too :( but well see

what do they say about the little things ... oh yeah they take the most time. This was a factory 2 and some odd inch hole. Figured Id use it for the new wiring ... except it needed to be 1 and a 1/4 diameter. so hour or so with the plasma and the grinder and walla :(. Anyway the wires will pass through the firewall here.

power steering pump in its new home with the new brackets. The brackets really cleaned up the front of the engine, well not the grease but the look of it

I can't believe how well the fan fits. The rod on the upper hose is temporary until it takes shape.

Im going the cheap route on the guages and re-using what I had. I didn't intend to make the final panel but you know the saying, if you give a mouse a cookie. The short story is since I am using a mechanical temp guage I need to get the guages and panel straightened out before I do anything :(. They are just barely sitting in the dash ... need to do some trimming. The panel came out much better then I expected. Notice the lack of a speedo ... Ill be using a wet finger out the window to check my speed:).

The red top didn't come back to life so I replace it with this orbital ... same techonology but of course ever slightly different dimensions, read that as I had to rebuild the entire battery tray. this is the new tray and hold down(pre paint).

like I said I was going to remove the upside down U and shorten it up a bit ... got a little carried away :)
